Canada Adds 54,000 Jobs and Unemployment Declines to 5.5% in September
Canada added 54,000 Jobs and Unemployment Declined to 5.5% in September 2019. It added 111,000 jobs during the third quarter, besides adding 456,000, within the past 12 months, as per the Labor Market Survey of Statistics Canada. The share of Ontario in the job growth was 41,100 jobs in the month.

  • As a Demographic the growth was more in the age-group of 25 years to 54 years.
  • The share of Men in that age group was 36,000 jobs and for women it was 33,000. 

The unemployment rate of Core working-age for men was 4.4 percent in September, which was a record low after 1979. The unemployment rate of Core working-age women had a decline by 0.3% and stood at 4.2 percent.

  • There were gains for men last year, (134,000 jobs) and for women (78,999 jobs).

Provincial Jobs in Canada

Ontario had the employment gain mainly in the domain of full-time work, and its unemployment rate declined by 0.3%. Also during the past year, employment in Ontario increased by 3.5% at 253, 000.

Quebec, added 13,600 jobs and its unemployment was 4.8%. The province and British Columbia have the combined-lowest unemployment in provinces.

In Nova Scotia, employment grew by 3,200 jobs during September, and the unemployment rate declined by 0.7% to 7.2 percent. Its employment grew by 10,000 in the 2018 at 2.2%.

Canada jobs as per the industry, figures had a big gain in the health care and social assistance sector by adding 30,000 jobs during September. Employment growth in the sector last year was 4.5 percent by 108,000
