Sadiq Khan, The London Mayor put in a demand for similar preferential treatment of Indian companies and students, as offered to China, for boosting Foreign Direct Investment, from India in London.
Indian businesses offer employment to 50,000 people in the capital. They also have the second-top position among the foreign investors here. As per recent data, the increase in the FDI from India was 255 percent from the past year to 2018.
The mayor repeated his message regarding London being Open and was not in favor of the hostile immigration policies of the present UK government. Moreover, it was proving to be a barrier for better investments and the arrival of students from India in London.
Moreover, in his opinion, the government needs to make it easy for businesses to reach London. He also advocated for a change in Immigration policies making it easier for Indian students also to come in large numbers here.
China and India must get the same treatment
At present, the government made some changes regarding China, and India also deserves similar preferential treatment. This will help many talented Indian students to arrive in London. He also had a hope that the government realizes the loss of a huge opportunity.
China is included on a list of countries that enjoy offered easy norms in the UK student-visa application. Besides, there is a preferential route presently not open to India.
Mr. Khan, advocates of a second referendum for the exit of Britain from the EU. The government was far away from the promise made during the referendum campaign of June 2016. Parliament is in a deadlock, and the British public must have a democratic say on the government deals. Moreover, there must be an option to remain in the European Union.
He was speaking at a function of Charity Award which had the theme of combating knife crime. It is a major issue dominating the agenda of the London Mayor. He said that the Charities play an important role to fill in the gaps prevalent in the social safety net. All crimes require the cooperative effort of families, individuals, educational institutions and organizations serving the community to eradicate the menace. These awards are unique and each applicant has to pass through a rigorous rating process before appearing on the shortlist for meeting the specifications of the judges.
