Unemployment is Steady in Canada in October But Gains in British Columbia
Statistics reveal that unemployment in Canada was steady at 5.5 percent during October.

Impressive Growth

The strength of employed people was constant in the month, and 443,000 jobs were added last year. Among the Provinces British Columbia was a main mover, and added 15,300 jobs and its unemployment rate was just 4.7 percent.

Furthermore, the main increase in employment was seen in the age group of 55 and above, and 31,000 was an even share between men and women.

The unemployment rate among old group declined to 4.7 percent.

For the Men in the age group of 25 -54 years employment declined by 29,000, and there was no change in women of that age group. The rate of unemployment was 4.7 percent (men) and 4.4 percent (women)

In the interim, there was 11.3 percent decline in youth unemployment in the age group of 15 -24 years fell to in October.

Job Picture In Provincial Canada

BC was the leader among the provinces, and had the lowest rate of unemployment. Employment increased by 50,000 in 2018 here.

Newfoundland & Labrador moved positively and added 2,700 jobs for unemployment rate at 11.1 percent.

Alberta, added 7,700 jobs and its unemployment rate was 6.7 percent.

Canada Jobs By Industry

As per the data, public administration had the largest gain and employment increased by 20,000 in the month.

There were gains in Quebec, British Columbia, New Brunswick and PEI, and industry added 73,000 jobs in the past 12 months.

There were increases in insurance, Finance, real estate, renting and leasing also adding 18,000 jobs in the month and 64,000 in the past 12 months. The focus of gains was in Ontario.

Also the public sector in Canada added 29,000 jobs in the month adding 125,000 in the past 12 months.

Also the progress in private sector during the month was marginal and its annual increase was 260,000 jobs.

There was decline among self-employed workers by 28,000 in October but increase by 58,000 in the past 12 months.
