Vernon, B.C. Begins Application Process for Rural and Northern Pilot

The Vernon city in British Columbia province has become the latest community to start accepting applications for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot. Applications from applicants who satisfy both federal and community requirements are being allowed as of 1 February 2020.

Vernon is the 5th community to start the activity by the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, after Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie in the province of Ontario, and Brandon and Altona/Rhineland in the province of Manitoba.

The community will use this program to proceed to strengthen their local economy and to promote the growth of the workforce, the Vernon website states.

Also the federal criteria, Vernon lists particular candidate criteria, as well as its new version of the  Vernon Comprehensive Ranking Score (VCRS), similar to the Canadian Express Entry system.

Vernon Community-Specific Criteria

  • Canadian Language Benchmark (C.L.B) of 5 or above, in the language of English or language of French, for all 4 skill levels.
  • Have created a profile on the R.N.I.P Vernon website.

The Vernon Comprehensive Ranking Score (VCRS) permits candidates to score a maximum of 100 points on a variety of parameters including:

  • Language ability
  • Family links in Vernon
  • Prior travel, time spent and assets owned in Vernon
  • Work experience or study in Vernon
  • Regular work experience
  • Spouse or partner’s skilled work experience
  • Age of the principal applicant
  • Whether they have a driver’s licence

Vernon has a yearly allotment of 100 recommendations for applicants through the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP).

The majority of applicants must have an offer of a  job with wages of a minimum of $25 per hour in order to be eligible. However, 10% of recommendations are being exempt from this condition, presented the wage offered is within $20 and $24.99 per hour, and also they need to score a minimum of 65 points on the Vernon Comprehensive Ranking Score (VCRS).

Candidates who are presently studying, working, and/or residing for a minimum of 12 months in the community will be excluded from this community-specific wage requirement, the Vernon website states.
